Self Defense - Fashion Comes to the Rescue

Author: Jack Krohn

Ahhh to be a teenager again!! How many of you have thought that very thought and said no thank you. There is no question in my mind that teenagers today are faced with many more challenges than I had when growing up (about 100 yrs ago). Female teenagers today are so fashion conscious-I mean you can't go to a grocery store or anywhere for that matter without seeing advertising geared to this huge market-the fashion conscious teen.

These same young women who care so much about appearances may be overlooking something when it comes to personal safety and self defense. Let's face it when it comes to women's fashion jewelry, fashion trends or how they look non lethal self defense weapons and women's self defense weapons are not on the list.

Sexual assault and rape of women in the United States is a well documented fact of life.

--One of the best documented facts related to sexual assault is that the age group of 16-24 year old women is four times more likely to be raped than other women.

--Over 40 % of all women who have been raped expect it to happen to them again.

--Assaults on women have increased in the US three years in a row.

-- Over 50% of all rapes occur on a "date"

These are the reported figures. There is a lot of data suggesting that most rapes go unreported. One study showed that only 5 % of victims of rape or attempted rape on college campuses report it to college police.

There is a plethora of anecdotal evidence that shows women in everyday scenarios that experienced violence first-hand. If you’ve ever taken out the garbage, ridden in an elevator, or parked your car in a garage – you could have been a victim of assault, rape, even murder. We tell you not to scare you, but to make you aware that violence against women can happen to anyone, anytime, anywhere. Knowing this and being aware is the first step to prevention.

Up until now young women didn't want to have anything on them that wasn't cool. So having a non lethal self defense weapon was out of the question. There may be a neat solution in the market place. Now there are designer lipsticks that are actually pepper sprays that can protect you and may end up saving your life. So go ahead and be fashion conscious but be safe and protected too. Take control. Don't be afraid again.

If you think crime can only happen to the other guy you are wrong. The "other guy" is thinking the same thing and YOU are that "other guy". There is a reason why they call it self defense. You have to protect yourself, your family, your home and business!!

Jack Krohn started Security Solutions to help people protect themselves, families, home and businesses from crime.
